About Me

Hello, my name is Niloufar Wijetunge and I’ve taught science and mathematics for 27 years. I specialise in physics and maths up to A-Level and up to GCSE in biology and chemistry. Alongside classroom teaching, I’ve supported educators at all career stages, working with national organisations to train and mentor physics teachers - sharing strategies for effective lesson design, student engagement, and deepening subject knowledge.

My experience extends to being an external exams examiner, authoring physics content for the Institute of Physics, The Ogden Trust, and more recently, Save My Exams. I also prepare students for competitive university entrance exams, including the ESAT and PAT for Oxbridge.

More recently, I am tutoring students from under-resourced backgrounds through the Access Project, an initiative allowing me to give back to the community and help empower young learners to achieve their academic goals.

Over the past decade, I’ve focused on online tutoring, refining methods to deliver adaptable, focused lessons using digital tools. My resource library - built over decades - includes past papers, custom exercises, and interactive simulations, all tailored to address individual learning gaps and build on understanding. I have an up to date understanding of science and maths education, which enables me to support my students' learning relative to the curriculum and exam specifications.

My approach prioritises independent problem solving: equipping students with frameworks to tackle challenges confidently, not just memorise answers. This means structured guidance, regular feedback, and adapting techniques to suit their learning style. I also ensure transparency with parents and students, offering clear progress updates and actionable steps for improvement. Outside lessons, I invest time preparing materials and marking work thoroughly - because effective tutoring doesn’t stop when the session ends.

Beyond education, I work as a personal trainer. While seemingly unrelated, both roles share core principles: setting clear goals, tailoring strategies to individual needs, and tracking progress through consistency and adaptability. Whether mastering a concept or improving fitness, success hinges on fundamentals, patience, and incremental growth.

Aug 1995 - May 1998

I completed my Bachelor's degree in Physics from Imperial College in London, where I gained a solid foundation in fundamental principles and analytical skills.

PGCE in Science (Specialised in Physics)

Oct 1998 - June 1999

My passion for physics extended to the desire to become a teacher to pass on the knowledge. I pursued to train as a teacher at King's University in London.

Master's Degree in Education Management

Oct 2005 - June 2007
